I was in the high school library, with the librarian, assistant librarian, and library secretary. We had a television locked on the Sistine Chapel and when the white spoke came I jubilantly announced, that, 'Habemus Papam!' And then spent the afternoon in joy that the man whom had had the greatest theological influence on me had been elected Pope. When I heard his opening speech, live, I felt this warmth run through my fingers and I thought to myself, 'Things will get better.' Let us hope and see.

I was in my apartment in Louisville (back when I still lived there) watching everything on Fox News. I remember the anticipation just killin me as we all heard the bells ringing and then had to wait for the announcement.

When the guy was making the announcement, I couldn't understand what he was saying of course, since he wasn't speaking English, but I heard the word "Ratzinger." When I heard that I almost lost it with excitement, but I thought to myself, "No, wait until you know for sure."

When Cardinal Ratzinger finally came out, maaaaan, I was so happy! I was genuinely joyful. It was so great. I was clapping and jumping up and down. I'll always remember that day.

I didn't care who it was...I was just happy we had a Pope because whoever it was, it was our Pope! I was in my English class when he was announced by our prinicipal (a Brother) over the loudspeaker.
