Updates to the Sidebar

I added two new things to the sidebar, just on a trial basis: my facebook badge and a messenger (or tagboard). I'm still messin with the colors for the messenger. Anyway, leave a comment and let me know what you think about each one. Keep it or ditch it?

UPDATE: It appears that after a few posts to the tagboard, an ad appars at the top. I have no control over that, unless I pay for the Premium service.

Dear NH,
I'm still waiting (more than six months) for you to offer alternate "skins" (as you promised), since my weak old eyes cannot deal with the too-dark arrangement that you now use (earthtones on a dark-brown background). I have been using (at your suggestion) the raw feed (feedburner), but I would much rather use your normal page, because I think that I am missing out on some things.

Can you not please consider changing your color scheme entirely -- e.g., to use black characters on a (Marian) light blue background?

Thanks for considering it.

I guess I did promise that, didn't I? Haha, sorry I haven't done it yet. I'm not sure when I'll be able to get around to it. My girlfriend figured out how to do it. Now, it's just a matter of getting her to sit down and design me something.

NH, you wrote, "I'm not sure when I'll be able to get around to it."

I'm sorry, but that is an improper comment from a Catholic who is pursuing the universal vocation of holiness.

Under the circumstances (your promise, the long time that has passed, my difficulty), a proper reply from you would have been something like this:
"Great Scott, John! I"m so sorry. I will give this problem the highest priority on my 'to-do list.'"

NH, if you just continue to be lazy and uncaring, I will end up coming back to beg for relief again, six months from now. Please begin to act maturely in this regard.

John,

I think I did the mature thing when I was honest about not being able to do what you want as soon as you want me to. It would have actually been immature of me to tell you that I would make that a top priority when I have other things in my life that simply must come first.

Also, when I first mentioned the idea of skins, the most I ever said was that this was something I was working on and that it would take a while. If you like, you can read the initial conversation between you and I below this post:

So, I don't feel that I am breaking a promise, since I never really promised anything.

I don't know if you are familiar with web design, but it takes a while to design a blog or a website. This is something I simply do not have the skill to do, so I have to rely on other people. Of course, other people have their own priorities that usually come before designing a blog for me.

So, we all have to be patient. When the right person comes along with the skill and the time to make multiple designs for me (since, after all, offering skins requires multiple designs of my blog, not just one design), then it will be a reality.

Until then, you and I and the rest of us will simply have to make due with what we have. Also, I realized a long time ago that I can't please everyone all of the time and that someone somewhere will always find something wrong with my blog. I am trying my best to serve my audience to the best of my ability.

I hope you understand.

phatcatholic
